Ivory Black, Deep Orange Yellow
Ivory Black, Deep Orange Yellow brings together Carla Klein’s large oil paintings and the analogue photographs she takes and prints herself, which she uses as a starting point for her paintings. These photographs are used for the intro and outro of the book as well as the cover. The cover is printed on actual film material to emphasise the analogue technique Klein is using. The concept is inspired by the vast landscapes that Klein captures with analogue photography, which leads to a cinematic book experience. By using fold-out pages, a sense of and extended space is created. These spaces are sometimes merged and create new and surprising perspectives. Each chapter is composed as specific series. A black page ends each series and refers to a cut from a movie when a new sequence starts.
