Dean’s Dialogues 2012-2017

This compact volume collects an array of intimate thoughts from 18 of the world’s most acclaimed architects, designers, and artists; all of whom were interviewed by students and faculty, at the Illinois Institute of Technology's College of Architecture–under the tenure of Dean Wiel Arets. Each dialogue is presented with several images of the interviewee’s work. Their names and work’s themes are printed on the book’s front and back covers, bound in yellow linen. The image contribution of artist Erwin Olaf is printed in full color, whereas all other imagery–visualizing the concepts discussed by each interviewee–is printed in black and white. The book’s table of contents functions as a navigation system, by utilizing its outer edge–in a manner similar to the laser-cut indentations along the edges of twentieth-century dictionaries. Two thin white ribbons serve as bookmarks; all text is set in the typeface Practice, by François Rappo. Closing and opening the book, two spreads show the interviewees lecturing at S. R. Crown Hall, printed in a duotone of silver and black.
